Mozambique, Africa |
.
Cliff
Hampton has been involved in an eco-tourisom project on the northern
coast of Mozambique in Africa for the past several years. His love of
the African wildlife first drew him to the project. His love of
sportfishing was a key in his continued involvement. He and Capt. Eric
have made two fishing expeditions to this very remote part of the world.
The Maluane project should be up and open for visitors in the late
spring of 2005. This area will offer some of the best fishing
opportunities in the world. On their first two trips they were able to
catch many species of gamefish including yellowfin tuna, wahoo,
sailfish, giant trevally, kingfish, dogtooth tuna, barracuda, and
several species of reef fish. They have not yet fished the marlin season
which seems to run from Dec. to Feb. but the locals have been documented
with both Blue and Black Marlin catches. This area holds a very special
and unique opportunity for the sportfisherman with the chance to fish
huge numbers of fish that have been virtually untouched by modern
commercial fishing operations.
Keeping these waters this way is a key goal of the Maluane Project.
Cliff and Capt. Eric were able to record the first tag and release of
both sailfish and yellowfin tuna off of the islands of the project. They
both hope to return soon and continue documenting the vast fishing
opportunities that this special place offers. For more information
regarding this project check out
www.maluane.com. The pictures below are from both trips last year.
